Exhibitor interview: MAGNESIA

We interviewed Thomas Luckow, who is Sales Director Lightweight Fillers for MAGNESIA, and shared his insight of the industry.

MAGNESIA is a supplier of high-quality mineral compounds. It’s the company’s 40th anniversary this year. They supply raw materials for most different applications, from pharma to cosmetics, food and nutritional supplements and, of course, for technical applications. Together with the Technical Magnesia area, the newly created ‘Lightweight Fillers division’ perfectly complements our technical portfolio. They offer mineral compounds and lightweight fillers optimising product characteristics like thermal insulation and flame retardant, weight, surface and improving production process.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

We think that it is the combination of reliable service, profound product advice and an immense logistical know-how that makes us the perfect partner for all kinds of technical industry. We know our products and their positive properties in production processes very well. So we are a reliable partner for improving our customers’ products and processes.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

The expectations for new development of the market have always been very high. In fact, we do have some joint developments with our customers in the area of fire protection coatings based on our Aerogel based MagSpheres A-Series, which offer a wide range of applications a new perspective.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today, and how can this be overcome?

The biggest challenge for almost all kind of manufacturing companies might be to establish stress resistant supply chains. The last few years have shown that we need a better understanding of possible risks and to find new solutions to keep the system running.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

We and our partners always have an eye on adding new properties to our products. Together with the development of new production techniques, more and more products might be manufactured out of compounded material. The growth might be immense, but could also be limited by high energy costs and the lack of qualified people in the R&D sector.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?

We face almost every day the demand of sustainable and affordable products. This is a big challenge as many products seem to be not sustainable or cannot even replace easily. I am looking forward to some interesting discussions how this topic will be handled.

MAGNESIA will be exhibiting at the Compounding World Expo in Essen.
