Speaker Interview: Dr. Alec Redmann, Netzsch Instruments

Please share some background on yourself and your company

I am the Sector Manager focused on polymers at NETZSCH Analyzing & Testing. We develop a wide range of precision material characterization instruments and software to assist with research, development, and manufacturing. This includes thermal analysis techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Rheology, Fire Testing, and more.

My background is in polymer and composite processing. I earned my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining NETZSCH, I worked in manufacturing and R&D roles for applications ranging from bicycle helmets to wind turbine blades.

What can attendees expect to learn when visiting your exhibition booth?

Visitors will discover a comprehensive suite of instruments tailored specifically for the plastics industry, catering to everyone from material manufacturers to processors and brand owners. We have a range of tools designed to address the unique challenges faced at every stage of the plastics lifecycle - from raw material properties and their dependence on processing conditions to the performance of the final part, all the way through to end-of-life and recycling.

In addition to our precision instruments, we are highlighting our advanced software solutions. We focus on intuitive usability and automation, demonstrated by our fully automatic AutoEvaluation tool. We will also showcase new computational tools for the automatic identification of mixed plastic waste, along with software for process modeling and optimization.

What are you most looking forward to from the expo?

I always look forward to learning about the specific projects and challenges different people are working on. There is a lot of innovation happening in the industry, and this is an opportunity to bring everyone together to initiate interesting conversations and collaborations.

Dr. Alec Redmann will be speaking on Day 1 at the Technology and Testing Theater.
